RE: Place to leave 5er for a few day? Any ideas?

If I were you I would try to find one of those large fenced in storage places that also offer RV and Boat storage and see how much they would charge you to park it inside for a few days. They would most likely only charge you $20.00 a night if that, well worth it for the safety and piece of mind in knowing that your rig will be safe and in one piece until you get back. NO Way do you want to leave your rig parked in some shopping center or WalMart unattended in or around Ft Worth.

RE: Hawaii Tour advise

I retired from the Navy and spent 8 years on Oahu plus my wife and I go back every year that being said I agree with everyone else just rent a car to go to the Arizona memorial and the Missouri but if your short on money you can just rent the car for 2 days which is plenty of time to go see the above sites and drive over to the North Shore and then the second day you will also want to go to Hanauma Bay and Diamond Head, another nice thing you and your Daughter would enjoy is the Yellow Submarine, it will cost you around $60.00 per person but if you have never been under the water in a submarine its worth the money because they take you down about 80' or more where you can see all the fish through the glass windows. As far as food goes you can spent a lot or you can get cheap inexpensive meals at the big shopping mall called Ward Center or the little out of the way places scattered around town, just so you know theres an airport bus service that will pick you up at the Airport and take you downtown and drop you rite in front or near your Hotel the cost is around $10.00 and your aloud to carry on a couple bags, theres also a regular city bus that stops at the Airport every hour on the hour but I'm not sure if they will let you carry on luggage.

RE: ice road truckers

I watched the show twice, the second time was just to make sure it was as bad as I thought it was the first time I watched it. Not much better than watching paint dry.:R I know what your saying, but if you have never drove over the road which I did for many years you have know idea what must be going through these drivers minds knowing that at any moment they could end up at the bottom of a frozen lake. If you ever get a chance watch the PBS made documentary on the man who first did this, he along with his 8 drivers did the same thing the only difference was there was no safety checks or sonar to tell them how thick the ice was they just took a chance and drove across the lakes when they froze over, in fact they installed plows on the front of their trucks and plowed their own roads open.

My favorite Driver is the Big Cheerful Polish fellow, he does his job and he does it well without hardly any complaints, as for Rick I would have showed him the door a long time ago.

Info on 395 From Reno,NV to Lee Vining

My wife and I are flying out to San Fransisco then heading over to Reno,NV and finally down to San Diego and back up the coast to Los Angeles where we will catch our flight back home, anyways we want to visit Yosemite,NP before heading down to Diego and it looks like taking 395 South out of Reno then hitting 120 West into the Yosemite is the best way to go. Can anyone tell me if this is a good way? and are there places to spend the night along the way or inside the park.

RE: Would you want to be a teacher?!?!?

Again, let's dumb down our future. I cringe that the persons that will be allowed to advance by using these methods will be the ones that are intrusted with our well being as we age. The students that study and advance without help from the state will be the doctors, lawyers, heads of industry, engineers, etc. The others will not be able to perform in the world and will end up flipping burgers and working for low wages in facilities that care for parents and the elderly. Thats alright because they will be replaced by young workers from India Mexico or Pakistan where the school systems gave them a good education and where teachers are treated with respect, unlike our public schools system here in the United States where Morons who can barely read or write get full scholarships to the best collages because they can dunk a basketball or run 100 yards with an inflated Pig Stomach and the teachers live in fear of their lives.

I've seen that too......."Spaghetti on a stick" is a pretty loose interpretation of what it actually is......I can't remember what it was at our fair this year that almost grossed me out:H http://g.virbcdn.com/cdnImages/resize_510x1500/Image-13784-303807-161.jpg Looks like something from CSI Las Vegas autopsy. Whats next Snot On A Stick or maybe a Chocolate Covered Dog Turd On A Stick with Coconut Sprinkles.

RE: Starting Over!

If I were in your shoes I would sell both the MH and the 5er and buy myself a nice sized class-C with gas engine and maybe a little toad to haul behind it, that way you would still have all the conveniences you could ask for but without the high cost of diesel fuel, not only that the class-C will be a little more easy to handle and setup, plus you being a single lady it will afford you more safety because when you want to catch a quick nap alls you need to do is pull over lock the doors and walk back and lay down without the need to exit the vehicle like you would need to do in the 5er.

RE: Denali Bus Drivers Authorize Strike

With Diesel fuel hitting close to $5.50 a gallon in Alaska along with the low numbers of tourist traveling there and every where else I cant imagen how the company that owns the tour buses can afford to keep them running plus pay the drivers a decent wage. Times are tough and it isn't looking any better for the year 2009.

RE: Ice Road Truckers is Back Season #2

I noticed Hugh Roland, AKA the polar bear, and his drivers from last year are driving trucks that belong to the freight company. I guess those piles of junk that Hugh had those guys riding in last year wouldn't cut it that far north. Those trucks that they were driving last year, weren't fit to run grain 10mi from field to elevator in southeast Missouri, let alone run 100s of miles over frozen lakes. That Hugh is a real piece of work he drives a truck that's in Tip/Top shape and then hires 2 drivers to work his other 2 pieces of JUNK that have Bad Tires Bad Brakes and worst of all no Heat. I like the Big Polish guy though he does his job and does it well, I would just like to know how he managed to feed and cloth his 14 children along with him and his poor wife who looks pretty Tired and worn to a frazzle, but I guess thats to be expected after giving birth to 14 kids.

RE: TomTom GPS?

I have a Garmin Street Pilot that has kept me amazed for the past two years. I sure wish I could have owned one when I had a job driving semis. Lately I have lost a little confidence in my Street Pilot. Having used it in Las Vegas and western Nevada. It has not been totally reliable, telling me to turn onto roads where there no roads and picking the worst possible routes. I can't figure out how this amazing piece of technology selects the route it directs you to. You can say that again, I cant count how many times I could have used one when I use to drive OTR and was making delivery's to places like NYC and Chicago.

RE: Dremel

Most Home Depots carry an extensive line of Dremel Tool attachments and repair parts. Men where would we be if the Dremel tool had never been invented, I for one cant count how many times my little Dremel Tools Ive owned over the years have saved my rear end, they have done everything from sharping lawn mower blades to cutting off rusty muffler clamps. I truly believe the man who invented it should receive the Nobel Prize.

RE: best baseball player of all time ? Babe or Ty?

I read an article not to long ago that stated that Honus Wagner was the greatest baseball player of all time and was one of the first 5 players inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame, if I can find it I will post it for others to read. Born-February 24,1874/Died-December 06,1955 Position-Shortstop. Batted-Right/Threw-Right Teams-Louisville Colonels & Pittsburgh Pirates Here are some of his stats Hit.344 his first year(1897) Hit over 300 for 17 seasons with lifetime average of 329 Led the league in stolen bases on 6 occasions with a total career of 722 steals. He retired from Pro Baseball with more hits, runs,RBIs,Doubles,Triples,Games and steals them any other National League Player. Didn't smoke Didn't Drink and he did all the above without using any Drugs or Steroids. The highest price ever paid for a Baseball card was Honus Wagner's or the Flying Dutchman as he was called, and it sold for 2.35 Million Dollars.

RE: I need someone to talk to

I also know what your going through because I suffer with attacks of sciatica and I know how excruciating the pain can be. The pain sometimes last for 3 to 4 week and can get so bad I cant even crawl out of bed, heavy duty pain pills and hot moist heat will help, one last thing I would get a second opinion from another DR before letting someone cut iito my spine you may even want to pay a visit to a good Chiropractor, a good one down your way is Dr Meinheart who has an office in Holiday.

RE: Changing your car’s oil at 3,000 miles is a myth

Every vehicle I have owned has been every 3,000 miles religiously except for my 7.3L PSD which I do every 5,000 miles religiously. I keep a log and still have the log on past vehicles. :) Same here, its the way Ive been doing it for the last 45 years on every vehicle Ive owned. My Father was an owner operater truck driver and he taught me at and early age that changing your Oil & Filter evey 3000 miles will make your engine last.

RE: anyone watch "parking wars"

Another good one is Airlines Wars, its a real show about Southwest Airlines which shows how they and their employees deal with and treat their customers. I watched one show and its hard to believe Southwest airlines is still in business if they do indeed act like they do on the show.

RE: Border Security Locker

If they are Firearms why don't you just Fed-X or Airborne express them to a Federal licenses gun deal in Alaska where you can pick them up once you cross into Alaska. Just so you know theres a big sporting goods store located in Glenn Allen,Alaska and there is most liky more near Chicken and Tok, a little research and a few phone calls and Ill bet you would have no trouble finding a dealer in Alaska who will do it for you for a small fee.

RE: Firewood, lake ice and water...very interesting.

Burning 200 cords was probably a drop in a bucket back then with the big open stone fireplaces along with the wood burning cook stove. And to answer your question about the ice, we use to travel to the far country in Northern Quebec Canada to fish where all the cabins were heated by wood and they still had the old fashion ice chest refrigerators, they kept our food and beer cold by placing a 20 lb block of ice in the top compartment then the cold melting water would drip down on the food area. The ice was cut from the lake every winter and hauled on horse drawn sleds up to what we called the ice house where it was stacked up 10 to 15 feet deep in the 10' x 40' long log building then tons of saw dust was shoveled around it and on top of it. The owner said that once he filled the building with ice he only needed to replace the top layer every winter.

RE: Another huge energy deposit found !

Hmmm, if I could only figure out how to run my truck on natural gas.... Don't take my word for it but I do believe there is a way to convert vehicles to run on natural gas alls you need to do is purchase a kit, but I believe it will only work on gasoline engines not Diesels. I also believe that there is some testing being done in Europe with bigger Diesel powered trucks switching from diesel power to Natural gas when they enter cites so as to cut down on noise and pollution.
